Frequently asked questions
- What is a power of attorney?
- A power of attorney is a signed document in which you (the principal) give another person (your agent) legal authority to act for you, for example to manage money, sign papers or handle a specific matter.
- What is the difference between a general and a durable power of attorney?
- A durable power of attorney keeps working if you become incapacitated. A general (non-durable) one ends if you become incapacitated. Some states make every power of attorney durable unless it says otherwise, so the non-durable version says so expressly.
- Do I sign it in English?
- Yes. The document you sign is in English. If you choose Spanish, you also receive a Spanish reference translation and Spanish signing instructions.
